Back in 2018, Sonos unveiled its Architectural range; a result of a partnership with hidden speaker specialist Sonance.
That resulted in Sonos’ first outdoor speakers, but also included in-wall and in-ceiling speakers.
The Sonos Architectural range has now been expanded to include new 8-inch ceiling speakers, up a couple of inches from the ones that launched a few years back.
Like the originals though, these arenât connected Sonos speakers out of the box.
In fact, the Sonos Architectural by Sonance lineup are good old wired speakers, which will need to be hooked up to a Sonos Amp to work.
But that doesnât mean that the Sonos/Sonance speakers are completely dumb. Sonos Amp will auto-recognise and connect to the Sonance wall speakers and youâll be able to tune them via TruePlay.
The new 8-inch in-ceiling speakers boast a 30mm tweeter and an optimized waveguide, and pack an enlarged woofer and a high-excursion motor, delivering a smooth midrange, deep bass down to 32Hz, and an expanded listening area.
Despite being a bit bigger than the 6-inch model, the magnetic grille’s style hasnât changed a bit. Stick both the 8 and 6 inchers in the same space, and they’ll look the same – which is handy when you consider you can power up to three pairs of Sonos by Sonance Architectural speakers with a single Sonos Amp.
The grilles come in white and you can even paint them to match your mood.

The bigger in-ceiling speakers will be available in the Spring.
