Netgear makes Orbi Wi-Fi 7 meshing more affordable

The Orbi 770 Tri-band Mesh System goes live

Netgear has unveiled its latest addition to its ever-expanding Orbi lineup: the Orbi 770 Tri-band Mesh System.

Designed to deliver the enhanced performance and security of Wi-Fi 7, the Orbi 770 series aims to make cutting-edge connectivity more accessible by coming in less than half the price of the networking specialist’s flagship Orbi 970 Series.

That makes the Orbi 770 Series Netgear’s most affordable Wi-Fi 7 mesh system to date, with a three-pack on offer for $999.99 and a two-pack for $699.99; compared to $2,299.99 and $1,699.99 for the same configuration of 970 nodes.

You’re obviously not getting the same performance levels as you would with the 970, with 11Gbps of total bandwidth on offer with the new 770 Series, down from 27Gbps on the 970.

But it’s still a lighting fast cutting edge system, with support for up to 100 devices across 8,000 square feet with a three-pack setup, over the 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz bands.

The Orbi 770 boasts Multi-Link Operation (MLO), a key advancement in Wi-Fi 7, allows for simultaneous front and back-haul connections on multiple bands (5Hz and 6GHz), enhancing network reliability and reducing latency.

The Orbi 770 router has four 2.5Gbps ports and the satellite mesh nodes each have two, making wired Ethernet connections lightning fast.

Each unit is equipped with high-performance internal antennas and high-powered amplifiers for 360-degree coverage.

All of this is managed through the excellent Orbi app, which has a range of access, privacy and parental controls, and it’s all compatible with Alexa or the Google Assistant.

Availability

The Orbi 770 Series is available for pre-order on Netgear’s website, with wider retail availability expected soon. The available configurations are:

  • RBE773: Router and 2 Satellites – 3 pack, $999.99
  • RBE772: Router and 1 Satellite – 2 pack, $699.99
  • RBE770: Add-on Satellite, $399.99

What is Wi-Fi 7?

Wi-Fi 7 is a significant leap forward, offering 2.4 times faster speeds than Wi-Fi 6, reduced latency, and improved handling of Wi-Fi interference.

This translates to seamless 4K/8K streaming, enhanced video conferencing, and better gaming experiences. As Wi-Fi 7-enabled devices become more common, including AR/VR headsets and AI-driven platforms, the demand for robust and secure Wi-Fi solutions has grown.
